Naloxone versus Narcan

Naloxone is an opioid antagonist approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This medication has one purpose. It was designed to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose. An opioid antagonist—means that it binds to the opioid receptors in the brain and it can reverse and block the effects of an overdose. Ex.- such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone. Naloxone is the generic name versus NARCAN is a brand name manufactured by Emergent Bio Solutions.
